Valor Hospitality: Championing careers, driving engagement and earning industry recognition

Valor Hospitality is a multi-award winning hotel management company operating a growing portfolio of hotels across the world, under leading global brands including Hilton, IHG and Marriott. Behind that growth is a clear focus on people.

Valor Hospitality’s people first culture has earned significant industry recognition, including multiple Springboard Award nominations and winning the Springboard Employer of the Year Award, alongside receiving an IHG Impact Award and being named in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work for two consecutive years. Through its commitment to employee engagement, wellbeing and inclusive leadership, Valor is redefining what a career in hospitality can look like.

To support this ambition at scale, Valor partnered with Flow Learning by Mapal to strengthen engagement, learning and retention across its teams.

A people first approach

At the heart of Valor’s award-winning approach is a simple idea: hospitality should be recognised as a long-term, rewarding career rather than just a temporary job.

This is reflected in a strong focus on developing talent from within, with structured learning and clear progression pathways across every role and career level. The aim is to create an environment where people feel valued, empowered and able to build a sustainable future in the industry.

Four priorities guide this approach: inclusive leadership, wellbeing, talent development and community impact. Together, they create a culture where engaged teams consistently elevate both guest experience and business performance.

Turning priorities into action with Mapal

To bring this to life across the business, Valor partnered with Flow Learning by Mapal to increase the reach and accessibility of its learning initiatives, by using Flow Learning, Mapal’s learning management system. This included a series of bite-sized, 90 minute leadership sessions, clearly promoted on the platform, making it easy for team members to view sessions and secure their place. Demand was immediate, with the first sessions fully booked within just two days.

Features such as reminders and waitlists helped maintain strong attendance. Sessions covered resilience, managing difficult behaviour and coaching skills, giving leaders practical techniques they could apply straight away.

Wellbeing was also a priority, with a digital library of short, accessible resources authored by award-winning expert Liggy Webb, designed to support teams across areas such as handling pressure, time management and healthy habits.

Rooms ready, teams thriving

The impact of this approach is clear:

  • 140 internal promotions in 2025, supported by clear development pathways
  • 8% flight risk, significantly below the industry benchmark of 39%
  • 450+ participants in leadership sessions across the business
  • 9,700+ wellbeing resources downloaded by teams
  • 86% engagement score with a 90% response rate

Looking ahead, Valor aims to enhance its digital learning, expand its use of Mapal Studio, an AI-powered content creation tool within Flow Learning, and develop more focused, integrated learning journeys. Short modules will combine behavioural and role based skills, bringing together key training elements, including manager input and sign off, into one cohesive experience.

"Mapal has played a pivotal role in supporting each of our priorities around inclusive leadership, wellbeing, talent development and community impact, enabling us to deliver scalable, high impact initiatives across the organisation."
