Tell us a bit about your background?

I’ve been working at MAPAL since November 2019. I come mainly from a project management background in the banking sector as a scrum master, but before that I was a project analyst and project lead using Agile technology. I’m originally from Nigeria and I’ve now been living in Edinburgh for the past seventeen years, not far from MAPAL’s office base in the city.

What attracted you to work for MAPAL group?

When I joined MAPAL, one of the things that attracted me was working in a retail and hospitality tech environment, and some of the big names we work with.

What do you do at MAPAL?

I work on MAPAL’s Compliance product and manage a team of six developers who are based in the Ukraine, but I’m one of twelve people in the wider Compliance product team with other teammates based in Sweden and Edinburgh. The term scrum master literally comes from rugby and is similar because it involves getting people together, talking to the customer, passing the work around (much like a ball) until you deliver. Communication and transparency is really important in his role, so everyone knows what’s going on to achieve the best the results, and what the customer expects.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Right now, I’m really excited about to be we’re working on integrating Compliance into our MAPAL OS single sign-on solution, and into the MAPAL One app, which will provide our customers with an even smoother experience for their employees.

I really enjoy empowering others to strive in their individual skills and we have a happy team, where everyone is proud of the work they produce. I work with developers, and whilst I’m not a developer myself, my role is to lead the process, ensure communication is clear and manage the project lifecycle. I listen to my team and trust them and their strengths to deliver the best they can. If you enable people to own their work and give the freedom to do it well, you’ll get the best results.

I also love working in an international organisation that’s agile, for the opportunities it may bring and the different people I get to work with.

What tech trends are you most excited about for the future?

I think there is so much potential in the hospitality tech space, and I’m excited to see where it can take us. There’s so much room to develop yet and it’s a great incentive to be part of it.
